Barry Trobaugh
Barry Trobaugh is the most recently retired Director of Bands at Munford High School in Munford Tennessee.
His teaching career spanned 40 years with placements in Owensboro KY, Stuttgart AR with the last 27 years in
his father’s hometown of Munford TN. His marching, concert and jazz ensembles are recognized nationally for
their quality and consistency, highlighted by three USBANDS Tennessee State Marching Championships and
the USBands Group VI National Marching Championship title in 2011. The Munford Band proudly represented
the entire state of Tennessee as they performed in New York City’s 2015 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and
later in the 2019 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena California.
The Munford Band had feature performances in the Music City Bowl and Liberty Bowl Games and as a “stand in” basketball Tournament Band for Tulane University, the University of Texas, El Paso and the University of Southern Mississippi.
Barry proudly served his many colleagues as the President of the Tennessee Bandmasters Association as well as President of the West Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association, and then later serving as the AllState Liaison linking WTSBOA and Tennessee Music Education Association. Even into retirement, Barry continues his service as the Director of the Tennessee Bandmasters Association Marching Events, coordinating contests and festivals across Tennessee. He is especially proud to have been part of the development of the Tennessee Bandmasters Association’s Marching, Concert and Solo/Ensemble Statewide Assessments that still today standardize Band adjudication across the Great State of Tennessee.

As “Maestro Trobaugh,” Barry is now in his 13th year on the podium of the Memphis Wind Symphony.
Retirement has had a truly unique definition for Barry. Still maintaining a full schedule as Adjudicator and Honor Band Clinician, Barry has also teamed with AMRO Music of Memphis, vigorously traveling throughout West Tennessee, North Mississippi and across Arkansas as an Educational Consultant to Band Directors and Administrators alike, sharing best practices in structuring the finest Band programs possible. Continuing to serve his greater Munford community, Barry has invested time with the Mayor’s Office of Munford Tennessee assisting as the Scholarship Coordinator and Live Entertainment Director for the Celebrate Munford Committee and was most recently appointed as Chairman of the Munford Downtown Development Commission as the
City of Munford joins forces with Tennessee Downtowns and Main Street America.
Mr. Trobaugh's work has been chronicled in the 2011 School Band and Orchestra Magazine “50 Directors Who Make a Difference,” the November 2015 Tennessee Magazine, in the book: Good Music, Brighter Children by Sharlene Habermeyer, and featured in the April 2018 issue of The Instrumentalist. Barry was honored to present a workshop supporting Student Retention for the 2021 Summer gathering of the National Association
of Music Merchants. Through Trobaugh’s efforts, Munford Tennessee was named by NAMM as the “Best Community for Music Education” for 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Barry was twice chosen Teacher of the Year at Munford High School’s and was a 2016 finalist for West Tennessee Teacher of the Year. He is a recipient of the University of Memphis, Rudi Scheidt School of Music Outstanding Music Educator Award and was honored by the University of Memphis Band Alumni Association with induction into their Hall of Fame for his many accomplishments. Barry is a 2018 recipient of the Country Music Association’s Music Teacher of Excellence Award and twice selected The Tennessee Lottery “Educator of the Week.” As the first inductee of the Briarcrest Christian School Fine Arts Hall of Fame, Barry now serveson their Selection Committee for subsequent inductees.
Zack Williamson
Zack Williamson received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and his Master of Education degree from Lincoln Memorial University. He was awarded the Specialist in Education degree from Tennessee Technological University. Williamson taught band for 36 years, the last 33 years at Roane County High School in Kingston, Tennessee. Under his direction the Roane County High School Wind Ensemble, Concert Band and Marching Bands consistently received Superior ratings and performed in festivals in Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Georgia. The band has been a part of the Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester, VA, the Dogwood Arts Festival in Knoxville, TN, the Kentucky Derby Parade in Louisville, KY, where they were awarded the title of Grand Champion in 2006; the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Savannah, Georgia 2008, 2013 and 2019 and New York City, New York 2015; and has performed at Disney World and Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. The band served as a replacement for the University of Tennessee Pep Band and has performed at five Lady Vols Basketball games. The Marching Band performed with the Pride of the Southland Marching Band at the UT vs. Western Carolina football game in 2015.
The Concert Band played in concert with University of Tennessee Wind Ensemble in 2014 and the Wind Ensemble performed with TTU Wind Ensemble in 2015 along with the Tennessee Wind Symphony in 2016, 2017 and 2018. The Roane County High School Band has been awarded the Tennessee Bandmaster’s Sweepstakes Award 17 times since 1997. The Roane County High School Concert Band was selected to perform at the TNMEA Conference in 2000 and was selected to present the Tennessee Bandmasters Association Hall of Fame Concert in 2009 and again in 2019 with the Roane County High School Wind Ensemble.
Williamson has served on the Board of Directors for the East Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association as Lower Area Representative and as Jazz Chairman. He is Past-President of the Tennessee Bandmasters Association, Past-President for the Tennessee Secondary School Band Directors Association. In addition to his significant involvement in local and state organizations, Williamson is also a member of the American School Band Directors Association and Phi Beta Mu – the International Bandmasters Fraternity. He was elected to the John Philip Sousa Foundation Legion of Honor in 2020 and was inducted into the ETSBOA Hall of Fame in 2024. Williamson served his country for over thirty years as an active member of the 572nd Air Force Band (Tennessee Air National Guard).
A special thanks to my mentors who not only helped shape me into the person that I am but also helped develop the Roane County High School Band program: Roy and June Holder, Dr. Ric Best, Joseph Hermann, Dr. John Culvahouse, James “Uncle Willie” Williamson and Don Hough. A very special thanks to my colleagues Julie Stout, Joel Tillman and Matt Weyer for you three made the Roane County Band program into such a successful organization and last to all the students who participated in the Roane County High School Band. You’ll never know just how much you mean to me, love you guys.
