We will begin with our ASBDA “Young Directors Workshop” focusing on the helpful banter between our “experienced” members and those with less time in the classroom. This has been a vibrant time of great discussion and debate about tactics and tools that enhance the learning-experience and promote positives for teaching band to our Tennessee youth. This will take place on May 31 and is open to ANY director willing to join us.

On June 1 we are hosting Richard and Cheryl Floyd from Austin Texas for our 2018 TBA Summer Symposium. Richard is fresh off an amazing TnMEA Conference experience with our 11/12 All State Band. Both he and his wife will be delivering insights for efficient and effective means of developing your skills toward enhanced success in your classroom. We will have sessions with both Floyds present as well as separate breakout sessions more focused to grade-level or specific interest.
Through generous sponsorships from Yamaha and AMRO Music we are blessed to have Cheryl and Richard with us for this unique event. This too is sponsored by TBA but again is open for all those that wish to attend, free of charge.
Lastly will be our June 2nd summer meeting of TBA where, among other topics, we will refine our Assessment Instruments for marching band, concert band and solo and ensemble events. We need everyone’s input as we wish to continue to set the standard for quality assessment sheets and the knowledge of how to utilize them in the best interest of our students.
Please pass the word of our multifaceted weekend and I hope we fill the room each day with both excitement and curiosity in music education.
See you there,
